The brave Blacksmith
Tuesday, 6. July 2021, 20:30 - 22:15

Mikeš, a young blacksmith, goes out into the world in search of experience, and runs into two indolent friends, Matěj and Ondra, while on his travels. When they find out about three beautiful princesses who have mysteriously disappeared, the brave Mikeš manages to persuade the two idlers to go looking for the lost royal daughters. They set out on a challenging journey that’s overflowing with dangerous pitfalls, but don’t worry – this is a fairy tale we’re talking about, so everything will turn out alright in the end.

Božena Němcová’s classic children’s story was made into a film script by Bohumil Steiner and Jaroslav Petřík in 1983. Petr Ulrych wrote beautiful music, Petr Švéda directed and Pavel Kříž starred in the main role in this popular fairy tale which regularly returns on TV. And now a new theatre version, which will lack for nothing from the well-known story, is being prepared for Brno City Theatre by Igor Ondříček and Klára Latzková. They are cooperating with Petr Ulrych to re-create the old story in a new form which retains the poetic qualities of the original fairy tale. Spectators can look forward to both the unforgettable melodies they know from the television screen as well as to new songs by Petr Ulrych, who celebrated an important birthday in 2019. This collaboration is, among other things, a kind of celebration of his many years of cooperation with our theatre. The world premiere of our new adaptation of this magical fairy tale will take place on 7th June 2020 at the Bishop´s Courtyard on a stage set designed by Jaroslav Milfajt.
